St Oliver Plunkett's Primary School, Ballyhagan

P6 and P7 Entrepreneurs.

3rd Mar 2019

On the non uniform day, Friday 1st March, P6 and P7 flexed their entrepreneurial muscles as Scones R Us and sold pancakes and scones to the whole school.

The children were involved in the whole financial process from the initial financial capabilities concept to the actual selling. They researched the cheapest and best quality products and carried out market research to establish the amount to buy and their target market’s taste in scones and pancakes. Using spreadsheets, the cost of setting up the project was calculated and their teacher dispatched to buy the required materials to enable the project to start.

It is the intention of the P6 and P7 class that the whole school has the opportunity to develop their financial capabilities by handling their own money to buy food and if appropriate work out their change. The teachers were delighted with the opportunities to use the mathematical language associated with money.

It is hoped that Scones R Us will sell their wares on each Friday morning until the end of March. On the first morning the children worked out that they had made a healthy profit of £10.70! After much discussion the children have decided to update their Golden Time games and to make a donation to a local charity with the profits of their project.

Many thanks to our parents and teachers for their kind support.
