Civic Reception at Palace Demense to Celebrate 50 Years

18th Nov 2025

As everyone will be well aware, this year has been a huge one in the history of the school as we celebrated the 50th anniversary of St. Oliver Plunkett's P.S. We were thrilled therefore when the secretary for the Lord Mayor of the ABC Council contacted us to invite the school to a Civic Reception in the Palace Demense to celebrate and mark this wonderful occasion and in a way, draw our official celebrations to a close for the year.

And so, last Tuesday night we gathered staff, volunteers, governors and parents (all past and present) at the Palace Demense to be hosted by Lord Mayor Stephen Moutary. Whilst we were delighted to see soo many of our team there on the night, the undoubted stars of the show were our very own School Council of pupils who had only recently been elected for the 2025/26 school year. This was a fabulous way to introduce them to the world of decision making and leadership and everyone there on the night was full of praise for their manners, respectful behaviour and inquisitiveness. They were full of questions for the Mayor about his role and duties and we hope that by coming along to the evening, we have inspired them to really grasp the responsibility of their roles.

A final word of thanks to everyone who attended, April Robinson (Mayor's secretary) and of course Mayor Moutray himself for the wonderful hospitality and welcome we all received. Thanks also to Eamonn McNeill and Councillor McConville-Walker for helping to facilitate the evening.
