County Finals Day

23rd Apr 2023

What a day for everyone concerned! Our boys and girls both lined out on Friday at the annual Armagh Cumann na mBunscol Malachy McGeeney County Finals day at the BoxIt Athletic Grounds. Everyone connected to the school are unbelievably proud of each and every one of our pupils for their efforts on the day and it was a pleasure to witness the fruits of all the hard work by Barry Murphy, Sean McCann, coach Greg, the Davitt's club and everyone at the school, come to fruition on the day.

First up were the boys who lined out against a very strong St. Michael's P.S., Killean. Despite our boys' best efforts and never say die attitudes, they were unlucky to have met a very strong and determined St. Michael's team and we lost out in the end on a scoreline of 2-9 to 1-2. Each and every lad who played on Friday, and the others who participated in the earlier rounds of the campaign, can be very proud of their achievement in reaching the final and whilst disappointed on Friday, we can rest assure that there are many more great days ahead of them all in the future both with the school and their club.

Next it was the turn of our girls' panel who were up against a very talented St. Brigid's P.S., Drumilly. On this occasion however, our girls proved to be way too strong for St, Brigid's and we ran out comfortable winners to lift the Malachy McGeeney Cup for 2023. The celebrations kicked off in style when the final whistle blew and the girls, along with their coach Miss Williamson, were delighted to walk up the steps into the stand to collect their medals and trophy.

All in all it was a fantastic day for everyone involved and the large contingent of parents, guardians and relatives who were present to watch the finals were able to enjoy the day with us. Commiserations again to our boys' panel and huge congratulations to our girls. An extra word of congratulations also goes to our P5, P6 and P7 classes who were in attendance to support both teams and who displayed impeccable behaviour throughout the morning. And as a little extra treat, we couldn't go past the ice-cream van empty handed as we left the Athletic Grounds and the cool ice-cream went down a treat with everyone.

Finally, we want to thank Mr. Farrell (Cathaoirleach Chumann na mBunscol Ard Mhacha) and the full committee for organising a wonderful Finals Day and we look forward to hopefully competing in many more finals in the years to come.

Comhghairdeas libh go léir!
