Online Safety Week Focusing on Artificial Intelligence Images
We were thrilled to celebrate our annual Online Safety Week over the past split week. Our boys and girls took part in a range of online safety lessons in school, alongside completing the parent/carer, staff and pupil surveys. (Full survey results will be shared soon.)
As a special focus this year, pupils in P5, P6 and P7 explored the potential impacts, dangers and incredible power of Artificial Intelligence in images. Using Adobe Express, we learned how to create safe, responsible and effective AI prompts.
In P5 and P6, pupils linked their literacy work on Irish Celtic Myths (Oisín agus Niamh i dTír na nÓg) to their digital learning. They developed safe, descriptive prompts to generate AI images of Oisín, Niamh and Tír na nÓg.
The P6 and P7 classes went a step further: instead of describing familiar characters, they designed their own mythical creatures, then used Adobe Express to bring these original creations to life.
These lessons were great fun, but also a valuable way to introduce the idea of safe and appropriate AI prompting at primary level. The pupils’ creations really show how powerful this technology can be when used thoughtfully, safely and respectfully!
In consultation with our School Council, we also updated our Online/Internet Safety Acceptable Use Policy for pupils. A revised version will be going home this week for families to discuss together.
Please enjoy exploring the pupils’ weird, wonderful and imaginative AI creations below!
