P6/7 Special Visit to St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh

11th Oct 2019

P6/7 were honoured to be given a special invitation to visit St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh. This invitation was issued by Canon Benny Fee who invited us to come for a special tour of the Cathedral and to see the beautiful new statue of St Oliver Plunkett, recently erected.

The visit came about due to an initiative by the P7 girls who on hearing about the new statue decided to write and perform a play for the rest of the school as a fundraiser for the statue. As a result £200 was raised and promptly sent off to the Cathedral.

On October 1st the children travelled to Armagh for their VIP trip. We were greeted by Canon Fee who expressed how delighted and impressed he was by the children’s endeavours and how St Oliver Plunkett’s in Ballyhegan was the only school named after Oliver Plunkett, who had fundraised.

Canon Fee is currently writing a book on Oliver Plunkett, he intends to include reflections written by the children as well as photos of them taken at the statue in his book. Stardom at last for P6/7!
