The Eco Committee in St Oliver Plunkett’s P.S have been fulfilling their duties as the ‘Eco Savers’ of our school by recycling paper, composting fruit waste and promoting energy/water saving across the entire school.

In addition to this, they have decided to target the physical health of our pupils by introducing The Daily Mile. The Daily Mile is an effective initiative which will not only improve the children’s fitness, but will also positively impact upon their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general well-being. The Daily Mile will work along side our school’s Healthy Eating Policy.

Before we began The Daily Mile on Monday 21st January 2019, the Eco Committee carried our a Risk Assessment of the route to be walked to ensure all pupils are safe when participating. They then measured how many laps of the route we need to do in order to complete a full mile as well as the length of time it took to complete. The ‘Eco Savers’  fed back this information to the pupils and staff at a whole school assembly.

We look forward to completing  The Daily Mile every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
