Waterproof Penguins

28th Jan 2018

Primary 1 are learning all about penguins from the Arctic. One of the facts we are exploring is whether a penguin’s feathers are waterproof or not. We each coloured in a penguin using wax crayons. We then used a spray bottle to spray water onto a blank A4 page. We observed the page becoming wet and soggy due to it absorbing the water.

Each child then got to spray their wax coloured penguin to see if they had made it waterproof.

Our experiment was successful! We witnessed the water running off each penguin, leaving them dry! Proof that penguin feathers are indeed waterproof!

Well done Primary 1. 🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧

Pupils have also worked hard making a lovely ‘Penguin Facts’ display for the classroom.
