What have P1 been doing in the run up to Halloween? 🎃 👻
Primary 1 pupils have been very busy in the lead-up to Halloween, enjoying a wide range of themed Learning Through Play activities both indoors and outdoors. These included sensory play at the water tray, a spooky puppet theatre, Halloween dress-up, building Kid K’nex monsters, and constructing haunted houses using various materials.
In Mathematics, we explored 2D shapes by sorting smaller shapes into sets using larger wooden shape templates. Pupils applied their understanding of shape to create Halloween-themed 2D pictures. They also used the BeeBot to program directions, guiding BeeBot onto chosen shapes. Pupils used shape pattern blocks to replicate Halloween templates, developing both spatial awareness and problem-solving skills.
Throughout the week, pupils revised their sounds, numbers, and High Frequency Words through a variety of interactive games and activities.
A highlight of our week was carving our class pumpkin! Everyone had the chance to scoop out the seeds and pulp, experiencing the texture and smell of the pumpkin. We also enjoyed creating virtual pumpkins on the interactive whiteboard—an exciting, mess-free alternative!
In ICT lessons, the children practised letter formation on the iPads and designed spooky digital pictures. These, along with our Halloween artwork—Crazy Pumpkins and Halloween shape pictures—will be going home to share with families.
We finished the term in style, arriving at school in our fantastic Halloween costumes! The children took part in a Halloween parade and are very excited about the upcoming school Halloween disco.
We hope you enjoy our pictures and video! Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻
